How to recover passwords for service account when you forgot it

Every SharePoint admin might have faced this issue one or the other time, where they remember the usernames but might have forgot the passwords for the service accounts. It happened many times with me and thought to share the steps I followed if this would help anyone

We can always recover the service account passwords using the below steps:


Steps:

• Open the command prompt either typing cmd in the run or directly Start-> Command prompt
• Go to the directory "c:\windows\system32\inetsrv"
• type the command "appcmd list apppool  '<App pool name>' /text :ProcessModel.Password"
