How to Link to a document located in other location


Steps

  1. Open the library in which you want to add a link pointing to document located in other location 
  2. Click “library settings” from the ribbon.

3. On the Library settings page click on “Advanced settings” link
 

4.  Select the radio button “Yes” to allow Management of content types, and then click ok.

5.     On the library settings page click on link “ Add from existing Content types



6.     Select “Link to Document” content type from the list and click “Add” and then OK.
 

7.     Go back to document library and click on documents tab in the ribbon. Click on New document dropdown arrow, where we find a new option “Link to Document”


8.     Click on that to add a link pointing to document located in other community or other location as below.

 
9.     Once we click ok, it will create a shortcut / link to document which is located in other location, instead of duplicating the files at multiple locations.
 
10.     The file will be appearing in the web parts as if the document is located locally, but when clicked it will be redirected to the actual doc location.
